I attended a photography retreat a few weeks ago at a lovely house at Tambourine Mountain. A few photographers got together to practice our craft of creating beautiful portraits. We got to be the photographer and the model.
For the morning session, I was the photographer. I got to try out different techniques, use different backgrounds and photograph a couple of different ladies who were all glammed up for the occasion. It was so much fun. I will be uploading some of those in the coming weeks.
For the afternoon session, it was my turn to be pampered. It was so lovely having Shona from Pull My Hair – Hair Design do my hair and Sarah from There She Glows Beauty do my makeup. They both did a beautiful job. At first I was nervous. I have always hated having my photo taken. Not knowing how I would look in the images. But then I thought it was a good opportunity to see how my clients feel in front of the camera. Looking down the barrel of the lens. Listening to the weird directions I tell them sometimes. Being posed in weird poses. By the time it was time to have my photo taken I was excited. There was so much good energy in the house. Everyone was having a great time in front and behind the camera.
Deciding on what to wear was the hardest part. We were only going to bring 1-2 outfits each but we all brought along way more than that and even other dresses for the others to wear if they wanted too. I have never been surrounded by so many beautiful gowns and tulle. It really is hard narrowing down what to wear. I chose a black formal gown I had at home and then a last minute choice I paired a top of mine with a black tulle skirt one of the other ladies had bought. It was so much fun swanning around in it.
Then it all came together. The other photographers I worked with were awesome and we all helped each other out. Everyone had a great time.
Here are some of the results. I can’t wait to do it again one day.
